Art Works
Identity

A lively new proposed identity system for "Art Works",
a program created by the National Endowment for the Arts.
A design as adaptable and ever-changing as art itself.

The Details

My design embraces the fact that art is not stagnant, it cannot be easily wrapped up into one solid mark.
The identity changes, morphes, adapts and transcends. It has the capability to be whimsical and
playful, or strong and sturdy. Using art and artists across all mediums (traditional, video, performance,
education, etc), this identity embraces the fact that art is one of the great human forms of self-expression.

From the call for submissons:

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) invited designers to submit proposals for an identity design
for a new “Art Works” program.

1. “Art Works” is a noun that refers to the works of art that artists create.

2. “Art Works” reminds us that a goal of art is to work on audiences and viewers to inspire, transport,
and challenge them.

3. “Art Works” is a reminder that arts workers are real workers who are part of this country’s real economy.
They earn salaries, support families, pay taxes. Artists are also entrepreneurs and placemakers, who revitalize
towns, cities, and neighborhoods – both the economies and the ethos of them.
